    The aim of this two-day course is to provide delegates with the necessary training to repair and maintain various fire door sets to the required standards.

    The course addresses the key differences between a fire door and a nominal fire door, guidelines on when to repair and when replacement is necessary if manufacturer-approved repairs are not possible, and critical information on maintaining fire doors in line with British Standards.

    On the first day of the course, learning takes place in a classroom setting, with a mixture of theory and practical, through trainer explanations, group discussions, videos and practical classroom exercises.

    The second day is entirely practical, requiring delegates to bring all necessary PPE stipulated in the Pre-Requisites, to enable them to participate in the practical exercises and remedial works.

    The training content to be covered:

    • Planning – This will outline the current regulatory standards that must be met. Mapping out use, type, ratings of fire doors, to accurately assess the required repairs and maintenance.
    • Understanding – On-site working methods in accordance with HSE guidance on working with fire doors.
    • Breaking Down – A comprehensive break down of an Operation and Maintenance manual.
    • Standard – Emphasising the guidelines for repairing and maintaining a fire door with Operation and Maintenance manuals (O&Ms), in accordance with British Standards.
    • Identification – A look into the most frequently encountered faults and their remediation techniques.
    • Assess – Examine pre-installed door sets to identify all necessary remedial actions, determined by the installation guides in accordance with BS8214.
    • Practical – Carry out approved repair techniques to bring faulty or damaged installations into compliance with current standards.
    • Inspection – Inspect and snag all doors, then carry out any additional remedial work as required.
    • Evidencing Works – Enabling the recording of all work performed and ensuring compliance with legal requirements, including the golden thread principle, using an appropriate sample platform.

    This course is aimed at delegates who are responsible for maintaining and repairing fire doors, or those who are involved in the ongoing compliance and safety of fire doors within buildings, such as Fire Door Technicians, Facilities Maintenance Engineers, or those with a CSCS skilled joinery card (or other relevant/equivalent experience).
