    This industry leading course will provide delegates with the knowledge and practical skills to undertake leak checking, recovery, installation, service and maintenance of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump equipment containing refrigerants.

    To successfully complete this qualification delegates must have a good understanding of written & spoken English.

    Theory

    • Identify basic systems, terms, principles, units and how these relate to theory and thermodynamics of vapour compression and refrigerants
    • Identify the causes and effects of global warming and climate change
    • Identify causes and effects of ozone depletion
    • Identify stationary refrigerant, air conditioning, and heat-pump systems components, functions and leakage risk
    • Identify the hazards and safe working practices for the installation, commissioning and handling of refrigerants

    Practical

    • Fabricate and examine pipework
    • Undertake pressure testing, evacuation and record completion
    • Undertake refrigerant charging, leak checking and record keeping
    • Undertake recovery of refrigerant and oil and prepare for disposal 

    Duration - 5 Days

    • Days 1 to 4 - Training, theory, course material alongside hands on practical experience
    • Day 5 - Closed book online City & Guilds GOLA examination (multiple choice) and Practical Assessment

    Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) - F-GAS information sheets - For users of stationary refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump (RAC) systems and contractors and equipment suppliers in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry.

    Delegates who are working, or looking to work, as a refrigeration, air conditioning and heat pump system engineers and who have some relevant skills and knowledge. You need this qualification as a licence to practise with fluorinated gases and ozone depleting substances.

    Pre-requisites

    This is a qualification designed for experienced workers, it is not an entry level qualification.  To ensure the delegate has the potential to successfully gain the qualification, it is recommended that delegates have an existing relevant qualification or possess significant knowledge and experience in the sector, prior to attending.

    Without evidence of formal qualifications, delegates must be able to demonstrate adequate prior knowledge and experience to ensure they have the potential to successfully gain the qualification(s).

    On successful completion of the course, a Level 2 award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations - Category I - City & Guilds 2079-11 certificate will be issued, qualifying you to undertake leak checking, recovery, installation, service and maintenance of equipment containing F-Gas refrigerants.

    Due to the Internal Quality Assurance process, as stipulated by City and Guilds, which must be conducted for the paperwork on all courses, certification for this qualification can take up to 3 months at our busiest times.
